The Gateways explained

ARQ IoT Gateways – Bridging the Physical and Digital Worlds

ARQ gateways are compact, powerful edge devices deployed on the customer’s site to capture and forward data to the ARQ cloud platform. These gateways are protocol-flexible, enabling connection to a wide range of devices and sensors through:

  • Ethernet

  • Wi-Fi

  • RS485 / Modbus RTU

  • CANbus

  • Bluetooth

Our gateways are designed to be robust and industrial-grade, with plug-and-play compatibility for most standard sensors. They can also be customized for special applications, ensuring a cost-effective, streamlined installation even in complex or legacy environments.

Each gateway can support multiple data streams from diverse sources and is optimized for secure, low-latency transmission to the ARQ cloud.

Flexible Gateway Hardware – Powered by Linux

At the core of every ARQ IoT gateway is a robust Linux-based system, offering unmatched flexibility, reliability, and scalability. Because the platform is built on open standards, most Linux-compatible embedded PCs that meets the minimum hardware requirements—Intel i3 or equivalent, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage—can be used as a gateway, provided it has the appropriate interfaces.

Supported interfaces include Ethernet, Wi-Fi, RS485, CANbus, and Bluetooth, enabling seamless integration with a wide range of industrial devices and sensors.

The Intel i3 configuration serves as the entry-level solution, ideal for sites with moderate monitoring and control demands. However, as the number of sensors and control points increases, more powerful hardware may be required to ensure responsive performance and smooth data handling. This scalable approach allows ARQ to support everything from small installations to enterprise-scale deployments, using off-the-shelf or customer-preferred hardware—without sacrificing compatibility or reliability with the ARQ cloud platform.

Edge Intelligence – Local Control and Automation Built In

ARQ IoT gateways are equipped with a powerful locally hosted control engine and automation environment, designed to operate autonomously and efficiently at the edge. This enables real-time monitoring, control, and data logging even in the absence of cloud connectivity.

Sensor integration is highly flexible, supporting a wide range of communication protocols including Modbus, RS485, CANbus, Bluetooth, and analog/digital I/O. Adding new sensors or devices is simple, thanks to a modular framework that allows for rapid configuration and onboarding.

Users can create custom control logic and automation workflows using a visual, flow-based interface. This system allows for intuitive programming of triggers, conditions, and actions—perfect for managing pumps, valves, alarms, or any other controllable asset on-site.

Each gateway also supports the creation of custom user interfaces directly on the device. These local dashboards are completely independent of the cloud platform, giving technicians and operators on-site access to real-time data, control functions, and historical logs through a browser-based interface.

If internet connectivity is lost, the gateway continues to function fully in offline mode. All data is buffered locally and securely, then automatically synchronized with the ARQ cloud platform once the connection is restored. This ensures no data is lost, and all historical trends, alerts, and records remain complete and accurate.

This robust edge-first design delivers resilient, intelligent automation while reducing dependence on external systems—ideal for remote sites and critical infrastructure.

Custom dashboards on edge keep local operators informed and aware of any anomalies even if the the cloud link is not operational.

At ARQ Controls, we specialize in monitoring, measuring, and controlling critical assets remotely. Whether it’s industrial equipment, energy systems, or environmental factors, our solutions are designed to provide real-time insights and control from anywhere. We eliminate the complexity found in larger platforms, offering streamlined, efficient systems that allow businesses to manage their operations with precision and confidence.
